Summer '10

I know what you're thinking. Its November 6, chilly out, and she's thinking about summer vacation? Erik and I are not big "beach goers." Crazy, I know, because I LOVE the beach. We've been married for 7 years, and have yet to go to Florida OR the beaches of AL. We usually head to the mountains, but next year I intend to change that. I have told him, "I'm going to the beach!" We took a trip to Riviera Maya in the Spring of 2008 and had a blast. Erik isn't to keen about just "laying on the beach." I think he gets board, but this time, I intend on getting my way. We want to take a vacation next year, and since we will have a 10 month old going with us, I think the beach will be more appropriate. I will have to admit, that last time I went to gulf shores, I was not impressed, but hey, I'm looking for nice, but cheap. Having a baby, we'll have to forgo the much wanted re-visit to Mexico. lol! So, to get a head start. Please send me your recommendations. I will be on vacation the week of June 14.

i'd check out destin, fl, or sandestin, if gulf shores didn't impress you. i love it all personally. sandestin is more upscale (AND pricier) than destin or gulf shores. i prefer orange beach over gulf shores though. perdido is nice too and less crowded and you are still close to drive to orange beach to shop and eat. Brad is the same way as far as getting bored...so he plays golf and goes fishing. we are planning a trip too around that same time...maybe the boys can play together

I highly recommend Phoenix West Condos in Orange Beach. We stayed there this past summer with my family and loved it. Here is a website http://www.brett-robinson.com/rental_phxwest.html

They have a lazy river pool, another outdoor pool, and an indoor pool. Also easy access to the beach!

We have stayed in Gulf Shores,Destin, and Panama City and our favorite place is Gulfplace in Santa Rosa. It is within about 15-20 minutes to all the good shopping and food in Destin and it is very affordable. It is a low-key family community. They have bands that play in the court yard at night and all of these cool little shops and places to eat all right down stairs. I would also take a trip to the Red Bar (Not really a bar...more restaurant) at Grayton Beach. It isn't far and it has the BEST food!!!

I have gotten 4 families hooked on The Beach Club in Ft. Morgan (right outside Gulf Shores). It is a closed community of utopian proportion. I can tell you more about it but its the best the area has to offer!
