Mills' 1st Homemade JonJon

I recently attended a trunk show at my good friend Aimee's home. Her mother, Beth, is an extremely talented seamstress and can make anything! She has started her own business, "Patty Cakes." For me, she made a red gingham smocked jon jon with firetrucks on it in honor of Mills' daddy. This will be an outfit that I will keep forever! Good Grief!

Is it just me, or is this absolutely insane? " PETA condemns Obama for murder of an innocent fly?" I am sitting here watching the 12:00 news and just saw this. You have GOT to be kidding me? What is this world coming to? I would have been the first to whip out my "swatter!"

Meet My New Friends...

This is my new glucometer, and my meal planning guide. We met yesterday at my diabetes counseling and have become great friends. I was dreading going to the class yesterday for 3 hours, but knew that I needed to do so in order to learn more about gestational diabetes. So far, things are going great! I've checked my blood sugar 3 times and have gotten excellent readings. I can do this for 8 and a half more weeks! Its not bad at all.

Childbirth Class

Erik and I attended "Pregnancy to Parenting" class yesterday at Methodist Germantown. Early in my pregnancy, Erik had asked if we were going to be attending any classes. I hadn't really thought about it at that time, but thought, if he is willing, we're doing it! We had several people tell us that we wouldn't learn anything more than we already know, but regardless I thought it would be a fun way for us to share in excitement of what's to come. We had to be down there at 8:15. We went around the room and introduced ourselves, told our due date, and what we were expecting. There were 12 couples and all of us are expecting boys, with the exception of one couple who were expecting twins. They were expecting a boy and a girl. I thought that to be pretty odd, but it was great because we all shared something in common. We watched several videos (natural birth, c-section, and epidural), and I got to see the epidural needle up close and personal.
Right before lunch, we toured the hospital. Our instructor showed us where to check in and where to go from there. We then went down to see the delivery rooms which were very roomy and nice. The post partum rooms on the 3rd floor were the size of a cracker jack box, but nice nonetheless. Then we went to the nursery. There was 2 hour old baby boy getting his first bath who was screaming his little head off. It was great! I think we're going to like it there! :)
After lunch we practiced breathing exercises. This was my favorite part, because our instructor turned the lights off, played soothing music, and Erik massaged my back with a back-massager, and counted for me. He is going to be great!
Overall, I would totally recommend this class to anyone expecting their first baby. Regardless of what anyone told us, we learned ALOT! It was very informational and fun, not "corny and a waste of our time." Our instructor was hilarious, so that made it worth the while. I only wish that I could be lucky enough to have her as my labor and delivery nurse.

Hubby of the Year

Just because he deserves it...I am going to brag a little bit. Thanks to my wonderful hubby, I was able to come home yesterday and relax. I didn't have to do one thing. Thursdays are my usual cleaning and laundry days, but because Erik cleaned house from top to bottom, I didn't have to do a thing. That's right, I came home to dusted furniture, vacuumed and mopped floors, laundered clothes, washed dishes, and a near spotless garage. He even moved the oven and refrigerator and cleaned behind both of them. Erik is too good to me! I think I'll keep him around for a little while longer-lol! I am so thankful that he is willing to help me. Around here, we're a team, and will always try to keep it that way.

Drumroll Please...

No, this is not a thumbs up for passing my 3 hour glucose tolerance test. As a matter of fact, it is probably what my fingers are going to look like on a daily basis for the next 10 weeks. I cannot believe this! Nurse called today and said that "doc" has not yet reviewed my results, but my blood sugar was high again and that more than likely they would call me back tomorrow and tell me that I would need to attend a class on how to properly check my blood sugar on a daily basis. AccuCheck, meet Amy. Amy, meet AccuCheck. You mean to tell me that with all of these upcoming baby showers with cake, I am going to limited to eating it? This is sooo not fair! Any advice from any of you fellow gestational diabetics?

Impatience

It is Monday at 6:03 pm. I still haven't heard a thing from my 3 hour test. Oh come'on people! I want some sweets...now! Don't they know that I'm waiting and that they just need to put my blood samples before everyone elses? LOL!

I'm Done

I survived! Thank goodness its over with...I hope! I won't know my results until the beginning of next week. They informed me that all bloodwork is sent out to another lab and not done in-office. So, I still have to watch my sugar,. You should see my arms. They look lovely and blue. ha!

Round 2

I just had my 3rd tube of blood drawn. It was joyous I'm telling ya. The first lady missed my vein and dug around a bit, so I allowed her to give up and get the lady who usually does it. They have determined, that on me, a butterfly needle is the only way to go. I could have told them that! hehe By looking at my timer, I have 45 minutes to go until the last round. Time has passed pretty quickly. Thank goodness for laptop computers :) Did I mention how hungry I am? Someone please pass the donuts...I'm kidding!

Round 1

I am here. (the doctor's office). I just finished round one. So far, they have pricked my finger, drawn one tube of blood, and I've drank 2 times the amount of glucose that I did 2 weeks ago. Ewwww. I've seen "doc." He measured my belly and said everything is great. Then my 1 hour timer went off and I have once again had a tube of blood drawn out of the other arm. Gotta love it! Mills is wild this morning. Could it be all of that sugar? Oh, and I've lost 3lbs! Yipee! Diets do work don't they?
