Baby Shower 7/11/09

Mills was showered yet again yesterday at a brunch at the home of our dear cousins Clay & Claudia Kelley. Everything was beautiful and so nice. We had a great turnout as well. All of my co-workers from the past and present were there and many other great friends and family too! Mills received so many needed things. Erik and I have learned quickly that bringing a baby into the world requires ALOT of "stuff." We are so thankful for everything that we received and want to thank all of the shower guests for coming and helping us celebrate this special time, and mostly want to thank Claudia and Clay for opening up their home for the occasion. We can't thank you all enough!

These are just a few of the wonderful gifts that Mills received yesterday. I could go on and on and upload pictures for hours!

The last gift I opened wasn't for me, nor was it for Mills. If you remember from this post back in February, we were having a little "issue" with the baby's toys and stuffed animals. Our dog, Joey, didn't understand why the new toys of the house were not his to play with. So, yesterday at the shower, his "nana" felt sorry for him. She knew that with all of the new things we were bringing into the house, he would want one or all of the gifts. Joey received his very own spare tire chew toy that came in his own homemade personalized bag.


And boy did he LOVE IT!

Sauteed Mushrooms

One of my very favorites, sauteed mushrooms, has been a staple on the "diet list" since my diabetes. Thank goodness! My diet calls for MANY vegetables, and so since this is one of my favorites, I have been lucky in that the ingredients that are used to saute' them are almost carb free. For those of you that don't like mushrooms, you don't know what you're missing, especially with steak! Several years ago, I came up with my own way of making them. It may or may not be similar to your method, but to me, it's the BEST! If any of you would like to give it a "go," here's my recipe.

1 8oz. carton of fresh whole mushrooms sliced

1/4 c. margarine (add more if desired)

3 T. extra virgin olive oil

1 tsp. minced garlic

1 T. fresh squeezed lemon juice

1T. soy sauce

1-2 T. Worcestershire sauce

*Heat all ingredients except mushrooms over medium heat until butter is melted. Stir to mix occasionally. Add mushrooms, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. If mixture seems to boil too high, turn down the heat! Cook for about 15-20 minutes or to desired tenderness!

Packing

We officially have 40 days until baby Beasley's (aka Mills) due date. August 17 is just around the corner and I have been the worst procrastinator on the face of the earth. Every night as I sit in the recliner devouring a fudge Carb Smart bar, I think of how I should be upstairs in the attic getting my suitcase out and packing to go to the hospital. Anything could happen at any time, but I am definitely hoping the Mills' will bake for at least 3 1/2 more weeks, even though he is moving around like a mad man and resting his foot in my ribs. So, let me get to my point. We need your help. Most of you have packed to go to the hospital for your sweet babies. What are the things you packed and what are some things that you didn't pack but wish you would have?

Why I Am Thrilled!

We met tonight at the grocery store and so far so good. I just ate one for "dessert" and want another one...NOW! Yay me for finding some chocolate ice cream that is diabetic friendly.

The Nursery

I know that I promised pictures of the nursery several weeks ago. Sorry for taking so long, but we are steadily finishing it. The striping took a while and was very tedious. I still haven't put a thing on the walls so bear with me as I add a little bit at a time. We are planning on adding a few shelves and a book rack along with a few more pictures. If anyone has a money tree they'd like to donate from, we could finish the nursery this week. LOL!

If you are a frequent shopper of Pottery Barn Kids, I'm sure this looks VERY familiar! I'm not THAT creative.

Shower #2

Sorry for the late post, I have been so busy this week and haven't taken my memory card out of my camera to upload pictures. We had our second baby shower last Sunday, June 28 . The shower was hosted at the Country Club was given by my sister-in-law, Whitney, Melinda Pinner, "Aunt June" Beasley, and Lesley Hopkins. Erik and I received a wonderful variety of gifts and are very thankful for all of them. We want to thank our hostesses and those who came to help celebrate this wonderful and exciting time.

Game Night

Last Saturday night, we had "game night" at the Parr's. Donald prepared "mouth-watering beef tenderloin" (YES IT WAS MOUTH-WATERING...Kendra, you weren't kidding!) and it was probably the best beef tenderloin I have ever put in my mouth. Everyone else brought sides and desserts. It was a lot of fun.


Kendra had various games set up throughout the house, even Twister. I haven't played twister in years, but I don't think now is the time to be giving it another try. However, we ended the night with a game of Cranium. I love cranium! Enjoy the pics. Oh, and there are no pics of my team (Skipper, Brian, and Craig), because hubby never volunteers to take pictures-ha!

Dr.Visit 7/2/09

We once again went to the Dr. yesterday. I am now 6 weeks and 3 days away from my due date. I was supposed to have my first visit with my new OB, but unfortunately, due to a family emergency she had leave town and I had to reschedule with another Dr. They have no idea when the newly chosen Dr. will be back and there's no guarantee that she will deliver Mills anyway, but I feel like I have been thrown from one end to another. The "doc" I saw yesterday was "okay" but was not in my top 3 of choices. I do know that I should probably get to know a few of them, because any of them could be delivering my baby. So, enough of that. Everything went very well. The belly is measuring at 32cm which is right on target. My diabetes is staying on track thanks to my new diet and I gained 1/2 a lb, now weighing in at 130 1/2 lbs. lol! How weird? I do know one thing, though. As soon as baby B is delivered. I want a big Dr. Pepper, a large piece of chocolate cake, and some sushi! Hopefully they're be no more diabetes!

Blogiversary

One year ago, I began to tell you all of the daily happenings of the Beasleys. Who would have known, that this thing called blogging would become my "fix?" Originally, I had started a small blog in the fall of 2007, after my cousin and friend Kerri, introduced me to her blog. I knew nothing about blogging, and because I was a frequent "myspacer," I didn't really know if it was some I would be into. I had no children, and a life of nothing but me, my hubby, and THE dog. So, I created a blog, and for some strange reason, shared it with no one. Then about 3 months after that, I began having trouble with our desktop computer. It was slow as Christmas, and would freeze up every day. I ended up deleting the blog, because accessing it was like pulling teeth, and besides no one read it anyway.

On Christmas morning of 2007, Erik surprised me with one of the best gifts ever, a new laptop! I was thrilled of course, and swear to this day that I will never own another desktop...EVER again! After months of enjoying my incredibly portable, amazingly fast and reliable desktop that I can use and take with me anywhere, my friend Kate began blogging. Thanks to her, I began reading her blog and many more. I found that just because I didn't have children and a little white house with a picket-fence, did not mean that I couldn't tell everyone about what goes on in the lives of an amazingly happy married couple and their first child, the famous Joey. So, "loving life and the little things" was created. Now, as I share "what's buzzing with the beasleys," our lives have evolved and we are becoming parents, which will give us a ton of things to blog about. I have written about crazy things, funny things, tons about the dog, and so much that we have going on. Some of it, you may have found interesting, some of it, you probably could care less about, but regardless, thank you all for reading along and allowing me to read your blogs as well. It has been a wonderful year and a fun one at that. So friends, keep those stories and pictures coming. I am having a ball!
