More on Mills

We had a better night last night. As a matter of fact, the past 2 nights have been "better." Mills still keeps us up very late, but when he finally gets to sleep he'll sleep for a while. Last night, he was VERY fussy! Erik walked the floor with him, I rocked him and fed him, and he still cried. I would lay him in his crib, he would sleep for about 5 minutes, then cry again. We finally gave in and put the baby in his bouncy seat to sleep for the night. He didn't like that either, so we have finally come to the conclusion that he simply has his days and nights mixed up. It's not his crib, or his pack n' play bassinet, nor is it his bouncy, he simply has his days and nights mixed up. Boy this trial and error thing is a bit long. but is SLOWLY getting better. I nursed him around 2:00am and put him down to sleep after that, but he is slept to 6:30am. I fed him again, and he woke up at 9:30am. Not bad! For the first time, Mills has been awake for most of the day today. He's had very small cat-naps, but has been wide-eyed most of the day and is a bit fussy now. We'll see what happens.

Hey sweet Amy...these days will pass...hang in there. I know everyone is FULL of advice for you these days. Every baby/momma is different and you'll have to figure out what works for you. That being said, I just want to share a few things that worked for us...things you can try or nix, either way, just something else to take or leave! :-)

- I kept the house loud and bright during the day. I'd have the tv on, I'd vaccuum right underneath them, even if they were sleeping, and I'd talk talk talk to them while changing diapers.

- At night, there was never anything on but a very out of the way night light. Just enough light to keep me from breaking my toe on something...enough to change a diaper...and NO talking. Quick diaper change and right back to bed.

- For the first little while, we didn't consider our day to be over until Midnight. We'd play that 'loud/bright' day up until then so that the last feeding could be around midnight and maybe we could sleep until 5am...seemed almost like a normal schedule.

- I let them sleep wherever they would sleep...Evan was a bouncy seat baby...I put it in his crib, shut the door and left. I also put him to bed while he was awake and let him learn to get himself to sleep, but if rocking worked, I'd rock.

- I held them as much as I wanted to. :-)

Maybe there's a nugget within all of this that would work for you guys.

Hugs to you...

Advice is something I am sure you are lacking of these days but I can tell you both mine were fussy at bed time and the only thing that would sooth was to swaddle them and lay them propped up on their side and yes even on their forbidded bellies. It may help.
